"How to Solve the Problem of Baidu Snapshots Not Updating in Website Ranking Optimization"

Introduction: The issue with Baidu snapshots lasting over 2 months has finally been resolved. Zibo SEO also wants to mention that each website’s ranking optimization situation is different. Hopefully, Zibo SEO's experience can bring some reflection and when problems arise, they should be analyzed from multiple angles... Previously, one of my websites had its snapshot stuck on October 20th, making this snapshot as old as it could possibly be. Even for sites that are rarely updated, it would be hard to have such an old snapshot. Could you say it's due to the website's weight in ranking optimization? No, the published articles aren't 100% perfect, but almost all get indexed (usually within a few minutes). As for article rankings, they're commendable. Regarding external links, quality and quantity are both present. Baidu has reached up to 400,000, which you can check out. Articles indexed on the same day generally rank well, and many appear on the first page.
Therefore, I found it quite peculiar that the website's snapshot was stuck for so long. After reviewing some methods provided online, Zibo SEO found them ineffective. Why? It's simple; these methods may work but only apply to new sites or those without any weight. In the initial phase of the snapshot not updating, I merely thought it was part of Baidu's adjustment period because around August 20th, many sites were penalized, which everyone probably knows about. At that time, my site continued to see increasing rankings and traffic despite the lack of snapshot updates, so I wasn’t too concerned. Later, after a month, Zibo SEO realized the severity of the issue because several stable backlinks were removed. This directly made me realize the necessity to resolve the problem.
Firstly, to improve website ranking optimization, I posted a thread on a well-known SEO forum seeking help, hoping others' suggestions might spark some ideas. Unfortunately, the replies were generic and remained at the level of internal and external links. Then, I tried asking someone to post questions on my behalf in Tieba. However, no one was willing to help, and even if they did, the responses would be uncertain. So, I decided to conduct my own research.
The first thing I considered was whether there was an issue with the server. After carefully checking the server, I found nothing amiss. Then, I noticed that the snapshot for some channels was actually updated the next day. Through other search engines, I discovered that the snapshots were indeed more recent, except for Baidu's snapshot which wasn't updating. Therefore, this proved that the issue wasn't related to the server. Everything on the website was functioning normally!
Since the server had no issues, the next step was analyzing the logs, where I found numerous 200064 codes. Although there are various interpretations of this code online, I believe it isn't the key issue. Because even when the snapshots were delayed by a day, the 64 code still dominated, so it didn't signify much. Moreover, through the logs, I observed that Baidu spiders visited very frequently, with their presence noted every minute on the site. Based on this analysis, the lack of snapshot updates wasn't related to the spider since the homepage was constantly being crawled.
So, I attempted adding some inbound links. During this period, I exchanged a few high-weight Baidu links and even purchased some, but the website ranking optimization results remained unchanged, proving that adding links couldn't significantly solve the problem. Besides, the site already generated external links daily, so I gradually abandoned trying with links.
Then, where exactly was the problem? Fortunately, apart from the outdated snapshot, everything else remained unaffected. Additionally, the exchanged backlinks were very stable, rarely being removed due to the snapshot issue. Thus, I wasn't overly anxious and let it sit for a while, assuming it would improve eventually. But by mid-October, when the snapshot still showed no signs of moving after nearly two months, I became worried. It was time to resolve the issue.
So, I carefully analyzed the situation again. This time, I focused on the root domain without the 'www'. I found that although it had been redirected via a 301 redirect since the site's inception, its snapshot was still updating daily. This seemed unusual. Upon reviewing its logs, I noticed that the spiders only came dozens of times a day, and all were marked as 301064. But why was its snapshot updating daily? Since it could update, this at least proved one point: Baidu released the homepage snapshot, just not the one I hoped for. Therefore, I believed the crux of the problem lay here.
Zibo SEO considered several aspects. The primary domain is one factor, and it comes in various forms: with 'www', without 'www', and suffixes like INDEX.PHP, INDEX.HTML, etc., which can all serve as conditions for search engine judgment. Could it be that Baidu treats the root domain as the primary domain and assigns snapshots to it instead? This is a possible reason because I’ve always had doubts about Baidu's 301 handling technology. Previously, I used 301 redirects for domain changes and was extremely disappointed with Baidu's 301 technology. Also, perhaps there are other factors I haven't recognized, but regardless, I'm relatively certain that the snapshot issue stems from the 301 redirect of the root domain without 'www'.
How to resolve it? Stop the 301 redirect? Impossible, because if stopped, if Baidu truly treated it as the preferred choice, it would severely impact the site, leading to a large amount of duplicate content. What to do? I thought of a drastic measure. If you prefer giving it snapshots, I'll stop its resolution. Once it can't be crawled, it will naturally crawl the 'www' domain. This was my line of thinking. Anyway, it doesn't have any weight and has always been 301 redirected. Stopping its resolution is actually the best solution.
On the afternoon of the 25th, I stopped the resolution. On the 26th, the snapshot was still stuck on August 20th. I was getting a bit nervous because there were difficulties with indexing that day. But I gritted my teeth and persisted. By the morning of the 27th, I saw that the website's snapshot was finally updated overnight.
Thus, the Baidu snapshot issue that lasted over 2 months was finally resolved. Here, I want to emphasize that each website's situation is different. Hopefully, Zibo SEO's experience can offer some reflection. When problems arise, they should be analyzed from multiple angles. Nowadays, reading online tutorials is basically meaningless as the information is outdated. Baidu is harder to figure out than before, so we need to analyze based on the actual situation of the website from multiple perspectives to identify the root cause. Article URL:
