The field of low-power wireless technologies already has two major players: ZigBee and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), both of which are eagerly preparing to make significant moves. These technologies do not necessarily focus on high speed but instead prioritize stability and power efficiency. There is substantial market demand for these technologies across various sectors, including industrial applications, home automation, security alert systems, and consumer electronics. Qualcomm may have been unwilling to be constrained by these organizations, as with technologies like Bluetooth or ZigBee, the release schedules depend on the progress of the respective alliances, and additional time must be spent in meetings with other member organizations within the alliance to finalize specification details. As a result, Qualcomm invested four years in R&D efforts and independently developed its own low-power technology, dubbed "Peanuts."
