As the scorching summer arrives, many residents suddenly find a pungent smell in their homes where there was none before. What they don't realize is that summer is the most "reckless" season for formaldehyde emission. For every 1℃ rise in room temperature, the formaldehyde emitted from wooden furniture and flooring can increase the indoor formaldehyde concentration by 0.15 to 0.37 times. Therefore, understanding the sources of home pollution and acquiring knowledge on how to avoid it is essential to create a fresh and healthy home environment.

Hidden Formaldehyde Risks in Furniture

Are you fully aware of the hidden formaldehyde hazards in your furniture? When buying furniture, you can first open the drawers and cabinet doors to check if the smell is so strong that it makes your eyes water. If you have such a feeling, it indicates that the furniture's formaldehyde content is seriously over the limit. Moreover, be cautious of furniture made from artificial boards that haven't been fully sealed. All parts of furniture made from artificial boards should undergo strict sealing treatment, especially furniture using particle boards which should require complete sealing, thus limiting the release of harmful substances from artificial boards. Another point to note is that some furniture uses a large amount of low-quality, cheap materials, making the price of the furniture relatively cheap, with discounts often reaching thousands of yuan. Consumers should be careful about this seemingly inexpensive furniture. On the surface, it may seem fine, and after use, one might be happy at first, but after a while, the saying "you get what you pay for" will become evident.

In such an environment, it feels like being in a closed room sprayed with insecticide, causing eye irritation and throat itching. Experiments show that when the indoor temperature rises to 30℃ and the relative humidity is 45%, the formaldehyde release concentration in the air reaches 0.223 mg/m³, exceeding the national Indoor Air Quality Standard by 2.23 times; when the indoor temperature rises to 34℃ and the relative humidity is 50%, the formaldehyde release concentration exceeds the standard by 5.53 times; whereas when the indoor temperature is 18℃ and the relative humidity is 30%, the formaldehyde release concentration in the air is only 0.033 mg/m³, far below the national standard.

According to surveys by indoor environmental testing agencies, besides formaldehyde, summer indoor pollutants include three other aspects: ammonia pollution caused by concrete antifreeze agents used in winter construction; biological pollution inside air conditioners, such as "Legionella"; and indoor environmental odor pollution, especially prominent are chemical products, plastic products, odors produced from bathrooms and kitchens. Although these odors may not all be harmful to the human body, prolonged exposure can cause symptoms such as vomiting and headaches, and even induce various chronic diseases.

Taizhou Saint Paul has launched a Virus Doctor that can help us remove formaldehyde from indoors.

Virus Doctor's sterilization function: actively adsorbs, surrounds, breaks, and kills floating viruses in the air (including SARS virus, H1N1 virus, avian influenza, flu virus, etc.), and destroys bacteria, mold, and other harmful substances.

Neutralizing and refreshing function: excessive active oxygen is harmful to the human body. The active hydrogen generated by the Virus Doctor combines with active oxygen, neutralizes harmful active oxygen, and turns it into harmless water, providing fresh and healthy air.
