Star Factory Miao Drum Hiding Festival
---- Seeking the Mystery and Legend of the Miao Territory
Among the Miao festivals in Leishan, the Drum Hiding Festival (also called Drum Society Festival or Drum Sacrifice Festival) is the most grandiose and rich in meaning. According to the "Survey Report on the Miao Drum Sacrifice Festival in Taijiang" written by Tang Chunfang and Wu Tongfa, the drum sacrifice in Taijiang is divided into two types: the Black Drum Sacrifice and the White Drum Sacrifice. In the first year (Zi year), activities such as welcoming the dragon, electing the drum master, purchasing sacrificial cattle, welcoming the descendants' drum, awakening the ancestors' drum, and cutting the drum tree are held. In the second year (Chou year), the activities include bringing the ancestors' drum back to the drum hall and bullfighting. In the third year (Yin year), activities such as reviewing the cattle, numbering the cattle, making the ancestors' drum, and sacrificing the cattle to the drum are held. In the fourth year, activities such as sacrificing the white drum, sending the drum (hiding the drum) are held. Leishan is adjacent to Taijiang, and some Miao customs are the same or similar, so the drum sacrifice custom has both commonalities and its own characteristics.
