Man Axes Stepson's Wife to Death and Severely Injures His Son

This newspaper reports on June 21st: Because of a rice spoon, Sun, who had gone from Jimo to Tonghua in Jilin years ago during the "Chuang Guandong" movement, killed his stepson's wife with an axe and severely injured his ten-month-old grandson. On the morning of June 20th, Sun, who had fled back to his hometown in Jimo, was jointly arrested by the police of Jimo and Tonghua. The case is currently under further review.

Sun, 60 years old, is from Longquan Town in Jimo City. Years ago, he went to Tonghua in Jilin for the "Chuang Guandong" movement. Four years ago, Sun formed a family with Xu, a widow from Sanyuzhi Town in Tonghua County, and lived together with his stepson Dong and his family of three. On the noon of Dragon Boat Festival, June 16th, the family was having lunch together. When serving rice, the family complained that the wooden-handled spoon newly bought by Dong's wife Tang was not convenient to use. Tang casually said, "If it's not good, just throw it away." Sun really picked up the spoon and threw it out of the window. The spoon hit the window frame and made a sound when it landed, scaring Dong's ten-month-old child and making him cry. While trying to separate them, Dong said that Tang was his wife, and he could beat her, but Sun didn't have the right to do so. For this reason, Sun became even more emotionally unstable, pointing at Tang and saying, "If I don't kill you, I'm not surnamed Sun." After the meal, Sun took advantage of Dong and Xu going out to chop Tang to death with an axe and severely injure the ten-month-old grandson, then fled.

After the incident, the local police set up controls but failed to catch Sun. The local police soon found out that Sun was from Longquan Town in Jimo City, and analyzed that he might have returned to his hometown to hide. On the morning of June 20th, the law enforcement officers from Tonghua came to Jimo. Relying on their familiarity with the surrounding environment, the Jimo police quickly cooperated with the Tonghua police to capture Sun. Sun has now been escorted back to Tonghua, and the case is under further review.
