<p> After failing to collect an 8000 yuan tail payment for a construction project nine times, 37-year-old Anhui native Zhang Mingkai decided to hijack a car to run over Jia Mou, who owed him money, ultimately resulting in a tragic case of 2 deaths and 1 severe injury. Yesterday, the No. 1 Intermediate People's Court heard the case, where Zhang Mingkai was charged with robbery and intentional murder. At 10:00 AM, Zhang Mingkai, about 1.7 meters tall, was brought into the courtroom, showing a cold expression.</p>
<p> <strong>Angered by 9 Failed Attempts to Collect Salary</strong></p>
<p> In 2009, Zhang Mingkai built a house for Jia Mou. The contract showed that the engineering cost for completing the main structure of the house was 22,000 yuan. According to Zhang Mingkai, after the main structure was completed, Jia Mou only paid 14,000 yuan and then hired someone else to paint the exterior walls of the house. For the remaining 8,000 yuan engineering fee, Zhang Mingkai made nine trips to Jia Mou's home to collect it.</p>
<p> On January 3 this year, nearing the Lunar New Year, during his ninth attempt to collect the tail payment from Jia Mou, Jia Mou claimed that Zhang Mingkai's work was not up to standard and refused to pay. Jia Mou's behavior thoroughly angered Zhang Mingkai, who decided to hijack a car to run over Jia Mou.</p>
<p> Testimonies from Jia Mou and other witnesses showed that Jia Mou indeed owed Zhang Mingkai part of the engineering fee, but there were discrepancies in the amount.</p>
<p> <strong>Injured the Debtor’s Grandson’s Head</strong></p>
<p> The indictment showed that at around 9 PM on January 8, Zhang Mingkai carried nylon rope and gloves as tools, intercepting an illegally operated Wuling minivan on Huancheng South Road in Nangqiao Town, Fengxian District.</p>
<p> When the car reached Wuxing Central Road in Nanqiao Town, Zhang Mingkai took the driver by surprise, using the nylon rope to strangle his neck, causing mechanical asphyxiation death, and threw the body into a nearby forest near Jianghai Village Committee in Nanqiao Town. Afterwards, Zhang Mingkai stole the minivan and the driver's mobile phone and fled. However, Zhang Mingkai's driving skills were not very good, and shortly after seizing the minivan, he accidentally crashed it, forcing him to abandon the vehicle.</p><a href='http://www.xingnvlang.cn' target='_blank'>Star Woman</a>
<p> On January 19, Zhang Mingkai visited Jia Mou's residence three more times to collect the engineering fee. Coincidentally, Jia Mou was not at home, leaving only his daughter and her 15-month-old grandson at home. Prosecution materials showed that after Zhang Mingkai asked Jia Mou's daughter to call Jia Mou to demand the debt and was refused, an argument ensued. As Jia Mou's daughter's voice grew louder, Zhang Mingkai, in anger, took out an iron block from his pocket and struck her head violently, causing fatal brain damage. Meanwhile, Jia Mou's 15-month-old grandson woke up and cried incessantly. Afraid that his cries would alert others, Zhang Mingkai once again raised the iron block and hit the infant. Upon examination, it was determined that Jia Mou's grandson had multiple skull fractures, constituting serious injuries.</p>
<p> The prosecution believed that Zhang Mingkai's actions constituted robbery and intentional murder. Zhang Mingkai and his defense lawyer did not object to this, but the defense lawyer argued that Jia Mou's failure to repay the debt was partly at fault, requesting the court to impose a lighter sentence. Yesterday, the court did not make a ruling in the session.</p>
