On the western plateau of China, there are thousands of peaks that have never been conquered. They present a challenge and an allure to mountaineers. In 1996, the China-Korea Joint Mountaineering Team successfully ascended two virgin peaks of the Gangdise Mountains. "If the mountain won't come to me, I'll go to it" - A Record of the First Conquest of the Gangdise Mountains. Humanity has an extremely valuable quality - 'curiosity' about the unknown world. It is the most powerful source of motivation for humans to understand nature and themselves. But not everyone possesses this quality. Therefore, you may never be able to convince someone of the significance of mountaineering; all you can gain is your own experience. In the spring of 1996, two physically fit young men - 27-year-old Mu Shijun and 25-year-old Yuan Hongbo - were selected by the Yunnan Provincial Sports Committee. They were then sent to the Beijing Chinese Mountaineering Association base for intensive training. At this time, I was also eagerly anticipating my third trip to Tibet. This time, my goal wasn't Mount Everest, which I visited in 1988, nor was it Motuo, which I went to in 1994, but rather two virgin peaks of the Gangdise Mountains that I had never been to before. Fortunately, I became the full-time witness of this expedition.
