China Radio International Yushu, April 22 (reported by Hongxia Peng with photographic coverage) - On April 22, the officers and soldiers of the Yushu military district were clearing a pile of ruins on the south side of Zhaqu Road in Jiegu Town. Commander Yong Wu of the Yushu Military District told the reporter that with earthquake rescue shifting from emergency response to routine operations, it was urgently necessary to clear away the ruins. The local people hoped that the troops could help them put their property together. This task was very important as it would lay a good foundation for the next step of reconstruction, including building new chimneys.
