Lifetime honorary chairman of the International Olympic Committee Samaranch passed away at 21 in Hospital Gilone in Barcelona, Spain. He was 89 years old.

According to Samaranch's attending physician Esteban, Samaranch died due to acute coronary artery insufficiency.

Samaranch held the IOC for 21 years and stepped down in July 2001. At the same time as handing over the position of IOC President to Belgian Rogge, he was elected as the lifetime honorary chairman of the IOC.

As the second longest-serving president in the history of the IOC, Samaranch has been gradually plagued by illness in recent years. In 2001, after attending a conference in Moscow, Samaranch was hospitalized in Switzerland for 11 days due to "extreme fatigue." Not long after, Samaranch was hospitalized in Barcelona for a while due to high blood pressure and kidney problems. In 2007, Samaranch also received short-term hospital diagnosis and treatment in Madrid and Monaco.

On April 20, 2010, Samaranch was admitted to Hospital Gilone in Barcelona, Spain due to acute coronary artery insufficiency. According to his son Samaranch Salisachis, Samaranch's condition was serious. Hospital Gilone is one of the best hospitals in Spain, and many famous sports stars have undergone surgery at this hospital.

On April 21, 2010, Samaranch passed away.

It was reported that Mr. Sam's body will reach the Autonomous Government of Catalonia at the Palace of Catalonia on the 22nd, and a mourning hall will be set up there, open to the public from noon 12:00 to 17:00 in the afternoon. On Thursday morning local time, Rogge and other international figures will attend a farewell ceremony, then Samaranch's funeral will be held at the Cathedral of Barcelona.
