Xinhua News Agency, Jinan, March 31st (reporter Che Shaoyuan) - On March 30th, Shuo Shuo, a third-grade student at Jishan Primary School in Laopo Town, Ju'nan County, was injured on the scalp by her teacher with a teaching rod due to making mistakes during a dictation test. Currently, Shuo Shuo is receiving observation and treatment at the hospital. After negotiation, the teacher has agreed to fully cover Shuo Shuo's medical expenses.
At around 10 a.m. on March 30th, Mr. Ma, who was working in Qingdao, received a call from his wife stating that their daughter, a third-grade student at Jishan Primary School, had been struck on the head by her teacher with a teaching rod, causing continuous bleeding. Upon receiving the call, Mr. Ma immediately returned to his hometown from Qingdao that day.
Mr. Ma said that when he arrived at the Laopo Town Hospital, his child's head had already been bandaged. The doctor advised the parents to go to the county hospital for further examination to determine if there were any aftereffects. Subsequently, he took Shuo Shuo to the county People's Hospital, where the doctor stated that three days of observation would be needed to confirm whether there were any major issues with the child's head.
"On the morning of March 30th, Shuo Shuo made some mistakes during the dictation test, and the teacher hit her on the head with a teaching rod. Within two or three minutes, blood was flowing continuously from Shuo Shuo's head," Mr. Ma expressed that as a parent, he could not understand this method of education.
At around 3 p.m. on March 31st, the reporter contacted Principal Yan of Jishan Primary School. Principal Yan confirmed that the incident did indeed occur. Afterwards, the school administration and the involved teacher have been accompanying the student at the hospital, and all of Shuo Shuo's medical expenses are being fully covered by the involved teacher. The parents have expressed understanding of the situation.
Principal Yan stated that in the future, they will strengthen the management of the teaching staff and strictly prohibit such incidents of corporal punishment against students from happening again.
