In recent years, the city has been making efforts to improve its tourism infrastructure. The city has raised funds through multiple channels, focusing on the planning and construction of major scenic spots to enhance the quality of the tourist city. It has invested 117 million yuan in constructing new gateways and squares at Xishan Scenic Area, Jinsui Bridge, and the Nine Dragons Playing with Water Fountain among other ancillary facilities. It has also invested over 20 million yuan in renovating and expanding Longhua Temple and Xishi Nunnery at Xishan in Guiping. Additionally, an investment of 30 to 50 million yuan was made to construct the Ven. Kuangneng Stupa and Tea Culture Corridor, and over 10 million yuan was spent on building tourist roads, viewing pavilions, guesthouses, and swimming pools at Longtan National Forest Park. Meanwhile, by integrating tourism resources, the city has developed attractions such as Daxing Gorge Yusi Cave, Tonggu Chong, and Gold and Silver Pools. Through attracting investments, a number of high-end hotels like Rushan Well Hotel and Yu Yang International Grand Hotel have been newly built and put into use.
With the continuous improvement of tourism infrastructure, Guiping has successfully obtained the qualification of "National Geopark". Xishan has become a national 4A-level tourist attraction and one of the "Ten Best Places to Visit in Guangxi", while Longtan National Forest Park has become a national 3A-level tourist attraction and Rushan Well Hotel has been rated as a four-star tourist hotel.
Guiping's tourism has reached a new level. Last year, the city's tourism industry achieved a record high. A total of 2.779 million domestic and international tourists were received, generating a total tourism revenue of 470 million yuan, representing year-on-year increases of 16% and 20%, respectively.
Creating distinctive tourism brands. The city has increased the intensity of planning, implementation, and promotional activities. In the Xishan Scenic Area, a series of Buddhist cultural tourism activities titled "New Year Blessings" have been carried out. The "Guangxi People Touring Guigang" event and the "Xishan Bathing Buddha Cultural Tourism Festival" have been held. On every weekend and holiday, each scenic spot grandly launches a series of ecological leisure tours, historical and cultural tours, and mountain-water sightseeing tours. These colorful and distinctive tourism cultural activities continuously add vitality to tourist attractions, catering to visitors of different levels and needs, thereby opening up the tourism market. During the "Golden Week" of the National Day in 2009 alone, the city received 119,800 tourists, generating a total tourism revenue of over 21.6 million yuan, increasing by 22.29% and 22.73% compared to the same period last year, respectively.
The booming tourism industry has also driven the rapid development of related industries such as transportation, commerce and trade, telecommunications, accommodation, catering, entertainment, and real estate across the city. In the first three quarters of 2009, the city achieved a tertiary industry added value of 2.595 billion yuan and a total retail sales of consumer goods of 3.857 billion yuan, representing year-on-year growths of 13.7% and 21.5%, respectively.
