The United States' largest video sharing website, YouTube, has recently started allowing users to preview a new version of its web page design. The biggest change is the addition of many pop-up menus.
Previously, YouTube's play-video webpage underwent a redesign, with the main changes being content simplification, making the pages cleaner.
In this page update, YouTube adopted the traditional pop-up menu model. ZDNET's internet blogger Garrett Rogers commented that this interface reminded him of 1999, when pop-up menus were everywhere on the web.
In addition, the new page design has added space for display ads. American bloggers believe that this shows YouTube hopes to increase revenue through display ads, which also indicates that YouTube has issues with monetizing its website.
Regarding the new homepage, some user reviews mentioned seeing inappropriate videos appear on the page, which is indeed unsettling. Additionally, other users have said they still prefer the layout of the current homepage.
