There is no "purity" on the Internet.

There are two types of Internet companies: one type is those that don't really "look" like Internet companies, and the other type is those that do very much "look" like Internet companies. Generally speaking, the more a company "looks" like an Internet company, the harder it is for it to survive; the less it "looks" like an Internet company, the easier it is for it to thrive. This is the dialectic of the Internet business world.

By "not looking" like an Internet company, I mean the "mouse + cement" model, which has a mature, active traditional industry as its backbone, while the Internet is only used to optimize and amplify certain advantages. For example, Ctrip and its model:

Booking flights and hotels are mostly driven by the need for异地出行 (traveling to another place). Since it's another place, there is almost no experiential common sense to rely on. Thus, the Internet effectively resolves this information asymmetry and provides more convenient services. Booking tickets and hotels are the "cement" of Ctrip's model, while ctrip.com and the call center are Ctrip's "mouse". On the other hand, "looking" like an Internet company refers to the "mouse + mouse" model.
