"MSN Photo Scam" virus spawns new variant

By reporter Binzhong Xu, correspondent Lan Lu

Morning Post - A rampant internet virus known as the "MSN Photo Scam" has recently emerged in a new variant. Anti-virus institutions revealed yesterday that the "MSN Photo Scam Variant G (Worm.MSN.Win32.PhotoCheat.g)" was recently detected. This virus automatically sends a compressed file named "imag091307.zip" to MSN contacts. Once other users receive and run it, their computers become infected.

According to reports, this virus variant is a worm virus capable of running on WIN9X/NT/2000/XP systems. The virus automatically sends enticing messages via MSN and then attempts to send a compressed file named "imag091307.zip". When users receive and run it, their computers get infected. Besides flooding MSN with spam messages, the virus also attempts to connect to the IRC server "x.prox****.info", allowing hackers to remotely control infected computers.
