International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) and Google have announced that they will collaborate with universities on a parallel computing project known as "Cloud."

IBM CEO Samuel Palmisano and Google CEO Eric Schmidt stated that they will spend $20 million and $25 million respectively on hardware, software, and ongoing support, primarily targeting professors and students in the field of computational science. Through data centers, students will be able to use the internet for remote programming and research.

The Cloud project has already attracted the interest of many high-tech giants, including Microsoft and Sun Microsystems.
