The three newspapers plan to set up a joint news website which will provide the front-page news and editorials of the three newspapers, but only a small part of the content will be available for readers to read and compare on the website. In principle, it will be available for readers to read for free. The service will officially start at the beginning of 2008. On November 1, the three major Japanese newspapers - Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Asahi Shimbun, and Yomiuri Shimbun - decided to jointly operate an online news website in order to attract young readers and enhance the influence of the press in the online media. All three emphasized that they will continue to maintain competitive relationships, but will support and cooperate with each other in publishing operations and news production during disasters.
