Today is December 29th, Saturday, and it's a sunny day. Since its inception, the art of film has captivated countless audiences, while movie posters associated with films have exuded their charm in various forms across all eras. Bi Yang, though not a cinephile, has a unique fondness for collecting movie posters.
Bi Yang mainly collects posters from classic red films. The film "The Story of Liu Bao", is certainly familiar to everyone. This movie was filmed in 1957 by the August 1st Film Studio, telling a love story between an army soldier of the New Fourth Army and a peasant girl named Second Sister. Looking at this colorful poster, it reminds us of the plot in the movie. Bi Yang says that this poster has had a wide influence among the masses, attracting numerous renowned artists to hand-draw it, making it quite precious. [Contemporaneous Sound] Bi Yang: Due to its extremely limited issue volume, everyone wants to collect it. We spent five years obtaining it from a collector. Because it is hand-drawn by famous artists, its visual effect is excellent.
To make this movie, the studio even selected scenes at Phoenix Bridge in Longgang in our city. The next movie poster we see is "Railway Guerrillas" produced by the Shanghai Film Studio, which we are all very familiar with. Introductions of characters such as Liu Hong, Li Zheng, Aunt Fanglin, summaries of the plot, and highlights of the film are vividly represented on the poster. Bi Yang says that movie posters have their own characteristics, and through one poster, we can get some brief introductions about the film. [Contemporaneous Sound] Bi Yang: Posters have three features: targeting, artistry, and appreciativeness. At the same time, through one poster, you can appreciate the theme of a movie as well as the artist’s masterful touch. It can leave beautiful memories for middle-aged people and give young people a visual experience.
From the previous "Red Boy" and "Crossing the River Reconnaissance Record" to the "Grand Ceremony of Founding" and "Great Decisive Battle" of the 1980s, the true-to-life movie scenes, the versatile performances of actors, and the presentation methods of the films can be clearly seen on the posters. Bi Yang has already collected more than 1800 movie posters. He tells us that because their issue volumes are so few, the difficulty of collecting them is great. [Contemporaneous Sound] Bi Yang: Posters are not commodities, after being posted, there are very few left in existence. Now they have reached a state where they are priced but unavailable, making the collection process extremely difficult. [End Caption] Movie posters are carriers of movies, condensing the entire essence of a film. Currently, Bi Yang is striving to establish his movie poster museum, hoping to allow people to appreciate more movie posters and evoke beautiful memories.
