Manchester United officially announces the renewal of a forward prodigy's contract; a four-year deal locks in the talent who scores decisive goals.
On December 2nd, Beijing time, Manchester United officially announced the signing of a four-year contract with young forward Macheda. This 18-year-old Italian hope will continue to serve the Red Devils until at least June 2014.
After the renewal was completed, Ferguson expressed his excitement: "I am very pleased that Macheda has renewed his contract. Everyone in the team appreciates his individual abilities, and we hope he continues to work hard and improve himself as quickly as possible in the coming years."
Macheda himself is also very excited about staying at Old Trafford: "I am very happy to be able to tie my future to Manchester United. Last season was extremely exciting and memorable for me, and I hope to have more opportunities to contribute to Manchester United's continued victories."
Macheda was born in 1991, and at the age of 16 in 2007, he joined Manchester United's football academy. Since then, he has been playing for Manchester United's U18 team and occasionally participating in reserve team matches.
What truly brought Macheda fame was during the 2008-2009 Premier League season when Manchester United's battle for the Premier League title with Liverpool was reaching its climax. In a crucial match against Aston Villa, Macheda came off the bench to score the winning goal. Then, in the game against Sunderland, he scored the decisive goal within a minute of coming on as a substitute. These two golden goals made Macheda famous in the Premier League and laid a solid foundation for him to remain at Old Trafford.
