In our country's political system, people's congress deputies play an indispensable role. During last year's two sessions, the 554 deputies of our city proposed a total of 141 motions, suggestions, criticisms, and opinions. Each motion, suggestion, criticism, or opinion was related to the future development of the city and the immediate interests of the people. By the end of the year, most of these motions, suggestions, criticisms, and opinions had received satisfactory responses.

[Voiceover]: Jianjun Road is the main artery of our city center. However, with urban development, Jianjun Road has become congested under the heavy load of high vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Deputies like Yin Guangping and Cheng Jialing, based on gradually understanding the crux of the problem, proposed the motion "On Strengthening Urban Planning, Construction, and Management in the City Area."

[Concurrent Sound]: City People's Congress Deputy: Cheng Jialing. At the time, I felt that the roads in Yancheng, especially the main artery of Jianjun Road in our downtown area, had a large pedestrian flow and seemed a bit crowded. So, I thought about whether I could propose to the government to make this road better.

[Voiceover]: After receiving the motion, relevant departments immediately conducted serious research on its content and actively implemented work measures within their scope of functions according to the motion's content.

[Concurrent Sound]: Chief Planner of the City Planning Bureau: Zhang Yazuo. After receiving this motion, we conducted serious research. For the relevant contents, we made individual replies and responses. Furthermore, after studying the contents of the motion, we incorporated them into our planning implementation process and implemented them one by one.

[Voiceover]: After reasonable planning and renovation, the appearance of Jianjun Road has been completely renewed today.

[Concurrent Sound]: City People's Congress Deputy: Cheng Jialing. Now walking on Jianjun Road, I see that the roadside greening has improved, the sidewalks on both sides of the road have widened, and the road signs beside the road have been erected. Walking on the road makes me very happy. As a people's congress deputy, the motion I submitted to the government has been implemented, which makes me feel very gratified. In the future, if there is an opportunity, I will better reflect public sentiment and contribute more for the common people.

[Voiceover]: People's congress deputies are for the people. Although Cheng Jialing herself feels satisfied, she is still continuously asking the surrounding residents about their views on the transformation of Jianjun Road.

[Concurrent Sound]: Citizen. We feel that after the government helped us renovate Jianjun Road, the greenery is much better than before. We thank the government and thank you (people's congress deputies) for proposing this suggestion.

[Voiceover]: The motions submitted by people's congress deputies involve various aspects of society, from small issues like garbage disposal to large projects worth hundreds of millions of yuan, all of which promote the progress and development of our city. The construction and operation of Dafeng Port have caught the attention of people's congress deputies. As deputies, Yang Sainan, Geng Zhongxia, and others proposed the suggestion "On Requesting the Yancheng Municipal Government to Pay Attention to and Support the Construction of Dafeng Port" at the beginning of last year.

[Concurrent Sound]: City People's Congress Deputy: Yang Sainan. I believe that the development of Dafeng Port will have a significant impact on the development of Dafeng and even Yancheng. Therefore, I and other ten deputies jointly proposed this motion, hoping that the Yancheng Municipal Committee and the Municipal Government would further pay attention to and support the construction of Dafeng Port.

[Voiceover]: The construction of Dafeng Port is not only a focal point of concern for people's congress deputies but also a key task for the municipal committee and municipal government. In nearly a year, our city has invested a large amount of manpower, material resources, and financial resources into the construction and operation of Dafeng Port. On September 20th of last year, the first-class port of Dafeng Port officially opened to the outside world, and currently, the second phase of construction is being implemented intensively.

[Concurrent Sound]: Deputy Secretary of the Party Group and Deputy Director of the Dafeng Port Authority: Tao Ying. The year 2007 was the fastest developing and most fruitful year since the opening of Dafeng Port: the throughput of dock goods kept climbing. The annual throughput of dock goods reached 752,000 tons, 1940 containers, with over 210 ship calls, increasing by 41.3% compared to the same period last year, achieving production targets one year ahead of schedule.

[Voiceover]: Now, boats shuttle back and forth at Dafeng Port, presenting a bustling scene in the port area.

[Concurrent Sound]: City People's Congress Deputy: Geng Zhongxia. The support from leaders at all levels for Dafeng Port is very到位. As a Yancheng city representative of Dafeng origin, I am very pleased and proud of the achievements made in the construction of Dafeng Port.

[Voiceover]: Besides the renovation of Jianjun Road and the construction of Dafeng Port, the other motions, suggestions, criticisms, and opinions proposed last year by our city's people's congress deputies have all received responses, with the vast majority receiving satisfactory responses and solutions.

[Concurrent Sound]: Director of the Personnel Representative Liaison Committee of the Standing Committee of the Municipal People's Congress: Peng Zongyi. By the end of September 2007, 26 motions had been implemented, accounting for 18.6%; 77 motions were being implemented or included in plans for gradual resolution, accounting for 53%; 37 motions, due to restrictions in conditions or other reasons, provided explanations of circumstances, accounting for 26.4%. For the feedback opinions on 140 suggestions, the deputies have all provided feedback opinions, with a satisfaction rate of 98.6%.

[Voiceover]: The implementation and resolution of each motion, suggestion, criticism, and opinion not only demonstrate the government departments' emphasis on motions from the People's Congress but also more vividly reflect the positive role played by people's congress deputies in the rapid development of politics, economy, and society in our city.

[Editor's Note]: Through organizing the responses to motions, suggestions, criticisms, and opinions from last year, we find that under the joint efforts of all sectors of society, the motions proposed by people's congress deputies are being transformed into concrete measures, driving the development of our city's economy and various social undertakings. With the approach of the new session of the People's Congress, more people-oriented motions will be placed on the agenda, benefiting our city and our people.
