In the afternoon, the State Administration for Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense (SASTIND) held a meeting in Beijing to motivate participants in the Chang'e-1 lunar probe project. Zhang Yunchuan, director of SASTIND and head of the Lunar Exploration Program Leading Group announced at the meeting that through experts' careful evaluation and with the approval of the program leading group, starting today, the lunar exploration program would officially enter the launch implementation phase. Zhang Yunchuan said that the lunar exploration is a milestone for China's aerospace development. The Lunar Orbiting Exploration Program (the first phase of the Lunar Exploration Program) is a major national project that uses completely independently innovated high-tech. It is also China's first ever lunar exploration activity.
