According to a recent report by the French News Agency, the international hacker conference "DefCon" held in Las Vegas, USA has recently closed. During the meeting, the US government department publicly recruited hackers and invited them to help combat crime and terrorism, but the hackers were unmoved due to the low compensation.
The hacker conference lasted for three days and ended on August 5th. More than 6,000 hackers and computer security experts attended, including representatives from intelligence, military, and public safety agencies such as the US National Security Agency, the Department of Defense, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Since the convening of the US International Hacker Conference in 1992, federal government employees have always been key members of the conference audience. They search for skilled hackers at the conference and promote the glory of working on the front lines of intelligence warfare, hoping that they will work for the government. After the conference, the federal agents stated that fighting new-era crimes requires the smartest technical talents, but these people are unwilling to accept government salaries in order to "make big money" in private companies.
Although hackers were enthusiastic during the event, it seems they didn't buy it afterward. Roger Dingledine, a hacker who attended the meeting, said: "The National Security Agency has spent decades trying to accomplish something alone, but this doesn't work. I'm glad they realize that others can also provide help. I think they should know that just shouting 'trust us, we are the National Security Agency' is useless."
