Many webmasters obtain traffic from search engines by utilizing popular keywords on the internet to secure rankings on Baidu and Google. For example, they use tools like the Baidu Chinese Search Trend Chart or Google Hot Lists to find the latest and hottest online trends. By publishing articles based on these trending keywords, if optimized well and achieving a good search ranking, they can attract significant traffic when users search in large numbers.
However, this method does not always yield results for websites: first, the popular keywords found through search rankings are already events that have garnered substantial attention online. So even if you work on related keywords, you will always be one step behind others. For instance, many portal sites may already have related reports or even special pages covering the topic, such as with the news of Michael Jackson's passing. Second, for websites that are not outstanding in optimization, it takes time for search engines to index your articles, which creates a lag. For example, if today you determine a hot keyword through a search ranking and write a related article to post on your site, Baidu might only index your article the next day or the day after. By then, even if the ranking is good, the search volume may have already dropped significantly, as most online trending events don't last long. After two or three days, even if your article achieves a good ranking, it won’t generate much traffic.
Therefore, if you want to continuously gain traffic from trending keywords, you should move beyond relying on Baidu’s search rankings or Google’s hot lists. Instead, stay ahead of Baidu and Google by predicting trending keywords through various portal sites and video platforms, and preemptively secure rankings on Baidu and Google.
