A New York banker whose name was not disclosed purchased the coin from a coin collector for 1.9 million US dollars. The coin was cast in 1894 by the US San Francisco Mint.
The front of the coin bears the image of Lady Liberty, while the back has the words "One Dime". It is reported that the San Francisco Mint at the time only cast 24 such dime coins, which were used as gifts to present to visiting bankers, and this is why the coin is so valuable. Currently, only nine of the 24 coins still exist in the world.
