The Mobile Web Server is a lab product from Nokia. It is software that needs to be installed on Nokia S60 series phones. After installation, users can perform some operations on their phones through a PC browser.
- Contact management
- SMS sending: Send text messages using a web browser on a PC, or send SMS via the phone
- Blogging function: Travel blogging allows direct communication with friends
- Calendar display: Share with colleagues
- Mobile album display: Browse albums on your phone via a PC
- Camera: Instant image sharing
- Call log viewing: Check missed calls
- Guestbook: Visitors can leave comments
- Visitor and friend user accounts
From the above introduction, you may still not have a clear idea. Yang Yuancheng believes there are three usage scenarios for this product:
First, when you forget to carry your phone with you but it remains powered on, at this time you can connect to your phone via a PC, minimizing the inconvenience caused by forgetting your phone.
Second, allowing friends to access a blog hosted on your own mobile server anytime, and you can also update it via the PC end. The second usage scenario is quite forced. Since now there are plenty of cheap BSPs available, why would I choose my own phone as a server? Not only is it unstable, but it also incurs huge data charges.
Third, letting friends and colleagues connect and check your schedule anytime. This feature seems nice, but it's easy to find a substitute. For example, I could use a software to synchronize my phone contacts with Google Calendar in real-time, then let others check my Google Calendar.
Yang Yuancheng thinks "these features are just like chicken ribs" (meaning they are useless), but he also acknowledges that as a top manufacturer, Nokia indeed has an air of dominance. The Mobile Web Server is just a small step towards the internet.
After recent research, it was discovered that this is indeed a significant move by Nokia targeting the internet. In the future, the whole world will inevitably be interconnected. As a major mobile phone manufacturer, connecting with PCs and networks is undoubtedly an essential part. From the functions of the Mobile Web Server, users can use their phones as portable servers, or as a link connecting various devices (including PCs and other networked devices). Perhaps, in the future, having one device (a phone, or perhaps another form) in hand will make traveling worry-free around the world.
