Chapter 13 of "The Analects," titled "Zilu": Zi Xia was appointed governor of Jufu and asked about governance. Confucius said, "Do not seek speed, do not focus on small gains. If you seek speed, you will not reach your goal; if you focus on small gains, you will not accomplish great things."
When Zi Xia became the governor of Jufu, he asked Confucius for advice on how to manage the place. Confucius said, "Do not be hasty, and do not be tempted by small advantages. Being hasty will prevent you from achieving your goals, and being tempted by small advantages will stop you from accomplishing great matters."
