Ebay announced today the confirmed acquisition of StumbleUpon, with a notice on the website titled "aggregate transaction value of approximately $75 million."
StumbleUpon is a website rating system. According to data released by ComScore, an internet traffic analysis company, StumbleUpon has seen a significant increase in web traffic recently. The company currently claims to have 2.3 million users.
From January to March this year, the page views of StumbleUpon tripled, and the number of unique visitors increased from 500,000 to 900,000. In its five years of existence, StumbleUpon has received less than 1.5 million US dollars in investment, mainly from Ram Shriram, a director of Google, and Mitch Kapor, the founder of the Lotus 1-2-3 spreadsheet software.
