EMI announced on the 22nd that it has agreed to be acquired by the private equity firm Terra Firma. EMI had once opposed this acquisition, but due to its poor performance and the attractive terms offered by Terra Firma, EMI eventually changed its mind. Terra Firma will pay £3.2 billion for this acquisition, which includes paying off £0.8 billion of EMI's debts. EMI claims that it has received numerous acquisition offers, but Terra Firma's terms are the most appealing.
Analysts say that this acquisition will not affect the cooperation with Apple in selling DRM-free music without copyright restrictions.
