Although Hookle doesn't really like Joost and doesn't use it often, there are still a lot of people on the Internet who want to try out what Joost is all about. Although there are unlimited invitations available now (meaning that you can get one just by leaving your email), this kind of favor-asking feels like it comes with some degree of social debt. Hookle believes that instead of asking for favors, it's better to do it yourself and obtain an invitation independently, which isn't actually that difficult.
Steps:
1. Log onto the Joost website, download the software, and install Joost. Double-click to run it.
2. Joost will prompt you to enter your username and password; or press the button at the bottom left to register. You cannot register right now, nor do you have a username or password. However, you can log in using a public trial account provided by this site. The trial account username and password are both "zongtong."
3. After successfully logging in, follow the instructions in Joost Usage Report #3: click the MyJoost button on the right, then click Menu at the bottom left, and then click Invite Friends.
4. Enter the email address you wish to register with. Remember, First Name and Last Name can be entered randomly as they can be changed later, but the email cannot be altered.
5. After successfully sending the invitation, exit Joost.
6. Figure out how to switch accounts (important!!!).
7. Restart Joost, click the registration button at the bottom left on the login screen, and then register using the email you just received the invitation for.
8. Now, you can enjoy Joost's programs to your heart's content.
The key step is how to switch to the new account. There are currently three known solutions:
**Solution 1:** Find the following directory, generally the system is installed on drive C, so this directory is also on drive C. Replace "YourName" with your computer's username:
`%Documents and Settings%\YourName\Application Data\Joost\Profiles\`
Inside there should be a folder similar to "default" containing a file named `prefs.js`. Locate:
`user_pref("tvp.ui.firstRun", false);` and change it to `user_pref("tvp.ui.firstRun", true);`
Next time you log in, you will be able to switch accounts.
**Solution 2:** Directly delete the following directory:
`%Documents and Settings%\YourName\Application Data\Joost\`
**Solution 3:** Click Start at the bottom right corner of your computer, select Run, assuming Joost is installed on drive C, input:
`"C:\Program Files\Joost\xulrunner\tvprunner.exe" "C:\Program Files\Joost\application.ini" -p`
Click "Delete Profile," remove the default profile, then click "Create Profile" to create your own profile.
Among the above three solutions, I found the first one to work well, and I haven't tested the latter two. These detailed methods have been tested by others and proven effective.
Of course, if you find it troublesome, you can also leave your email, and Hookle will send you an invitation as soon as possible.
