Microsoft Releases $3 Student Software Package

On the occasion of Gates' visit to China, Microsoft released the Microsoft Student Innovation Suite, which is more affordable and reliable. Priced at only $3, it is purchased by the government and pre-installed on Windows-based personal computers gifted to middle and elementary school students for home use.

According to the introduction, this suite includes Windows XP Starter Edition, Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007, Microsoft Math 3.0, Learning Essentials 2.0 for Microsoft Office, and Windows Live Mail desktop.

If software at this price were available in China, wouldn't it make the spread of legitimate copies possible?
