Life in Color: Green The color green is commonly found in nature. The green in plants comes from chlorophyll. Green light has a wavelength of about 550 nanometers and is one of the three primary colors of light. The color opposite to green is magenta, not red as traditionally thought. Green also signifies being free from pollution and healthy, such as today's green vegetables, etc. In the Middle Ages, green represented demons (including dragons), and sometimes love. These symbolic meanings are not as prominent in modern times. Green signifies permission to proceed, as green in traffic signals indicates it's okay to go. Green can serve as a camouflage, which is why the army and field units often use green uniforms.
