If you live 7,000 miles away from where you grew up, life today is already different than it used to be. My parents moved from New York to Sitka, Alaska in 1964, and I was born two years later in Anchorage. While the rest of my parents' family lived 3,500 miles away in Pittsburgh and New Jersey, I might as well have been on the moon for all the times I saw them when I was a kid.
