According to many witnesses, the driver was racing with other vehicles at a speed exceeding 100 km/h. However, Hangzhou police believed that the speed of the vehicle was 70 km/h according to preliminary investigation.
At around 8:05 PM on May 7, 2009, Hu drove a Mitsubishi sports car with Zhejiang license plate number A608Z from east to west on Wener Road and hit Tan Zhuo who was crossing the road in front of Xiqu Nan Du De Jia. Tan was seriously injured and died after ineffective rescue by Zhejiang Tongde Hospital.
