When the knock-offs turn into outright plunder

China's first SNS community, Kaixin001.com (if you want to be picky, it should be Tencent!), a Google search will show just how many knock-off versions there are. Even those that aren't knock-offs will still include the three characters for "Kaixinwang" in their title. The most specific imitation site is Kaixin.com, which, with its overflowing resources, purchased the kaixin.com domain name and executed a great shift, attempting to relegate the original Kaixin001.com into the category of imitations.

From the very beginning, Qianxiang's kaixin.com never had good intentions; we can see the website name "True Kaixinwang" in its registered business website information. Those who know, naturally understand that Qianxiang Kaixinwang is the imitation version. But those who don't know? I estimate the number totals in the hundreds of millions.

Judging solely by the current online performance of the two sites, kaixin.com does not pose a threat to kaixin001.com. But it seems like it won't be long before kaixin.com can claim the crown of China's first SNS community. Kaixin.com's tactics are played quite skillfully, with a very clear understanding of the habits of current Chinese internet users, coupled with substantial financial strength. Additionally, due to unclear legal frameworks in China related to networks, domains, company names, and trademarks, the great shift may truly play out in the near future.
