The term "Shan Zhai" is now an extremely popular noun. The thing is, I've never quite understood why it's called "Shan Zhai." There are many explanations available online, but none of them are entirely satisfactory. Recently, I happened to meet a friend who works in IT subcontracting in Shenzhen, and he offered his own explanation. Of course, I'm not entirely sure if what he said is definitely correct, so I'm posting it here for everyone to evaluate.
