According to foreign media reports, the "Orbiting Carbon Observatory (OCO)" satellite which NASA launched in the early hours of Tuesday morning after 8 years of research and development at a cost of nearly 300 million US dollars, failed soon after launch due to a malfunction of the fairing used to protect the satellite, causing the satellite to fall into the sea near Antarctica. Space launches have always been known for being dangerous and complex. Since the start of the American space program, there have been over 160 launches that ended in failure, including the failed carbon-sniffing satellite launch on February 24th.
