In order to prevent the widespread unauthorized use of unactivated versions, like what happened with XP, Windows Vista's activation mechanism has been upgraded to version 2.0. An important change in the main principles is that commercial versions for large customer volume licensing are no longer exempt from activation; instead, they need to connect to a KMS server within the enterprise every 180 days for centralized activation.
Currently, there are individuals in China who have disclosed methods for setting up their own KMS activation servers, and such servers have already appeared, providing activation services to netizens. Users can simply use a publicly available product key to connect to this server and activate their copy of Vista Business Edition.
