Puguang, a small town under the jurisdiction of Xuanhua County in Sichuan Province, is located in northeastern Sichuan. The area is characterized by its towering mountain ranges, steep cliffs, and an intricate network of rivers. It was in this relatively unknown town that the largest and richest marine gas field has been discovered to date in China. Since then, Puguang has become a hub of activity. Traditional mud rotary drilling has become insufficient to meet the high-speed well-drilling demands, prompting various oilfield construction teams to explore alternative methods - namely, high-speed well completion technologies.

In January 2007, the ace drilling team - Well Team 70128ZY of the Drilling Three Company under the Zhongyuan Petroleum Exploration Bureau - utilized the original American "NUMA" coded air hammer and air hammer drill bit in this region. Under the technical guidance of the Drilling Tools Department of the Zhongyuan Petroleum Exploration Bureau and Beijing Sanrenboye Technology Development Co., Ltd., they achieved the highest air drilling speed in China - 437 meters per day - and set a record for the footage of a single conventional air drill bit at 1130 meters.
