Semi-evergreen shrub. Branches spread widely, forming a globular crown. Leaves are opposite, ovate or elliptical in shape, with fine serrations along the edges and sparsely covered with stellate hairs on the underside. The inflorescence is surrounded by large, white sterile flowers, with fertile flowers located at the center. The drupe is elliptical, first red then darkening. Blooming period is April. Fruiting period is October-November.

Commonly known as Chinese Snowball, Eight Fairies in Festival, or Butterfly Flower. A deciduous or semi-evergreen shrub of the Caprifoliaceae family. Flowers bloom between April and May, as large as a plate, pure white like jade. Cymose inflorescences grow at the branch ends, with eight surrounding flowers developed from sepals into sterile flowers, while the center consists of bisexual small flowers. Distributed in areas such as Sichuan, Gansu, Jiangsu, Henan, and south of Shandong.
