The Jade Rabbit Accompanies Chang'e
According to legend, long ago there was a pair of jade rabbits who had practiced cultivation for a thousand years and attained immortality. They had four adorable daughters, each born pure white and clever.
One day, the Jade Emperor summoned the male rabbit to ascend to the heavenly palace. Reluctantly parting with his wife and children, he ascended to heaven on a cloud. As he arrived at the South Heaven Gate, he saw Tai Bai Jin Xing leading celestial generals escorting Chang'e past him. The rabbit immortal didn't know what had happened, so he asked a nearby celestial guardian about it. After hearing her story, the rabbit immortal felt sympathy for Chang'e's unjust punishment. But feeling powerless to help much, he thought about how lonely and sad Chang'e must be confined alone in the moon palace. It would be good if someone could keep her company. Suddenly, he thought of his four daughters and immediately rushed home.
The rabbit immortal told the female rabbit about Chang'e's plight and expressed his wish to send one of their children to accompany Chang'e.
