Mid-Autumn Festival is one of our traditional festivals, and it is known as one of the four major traditional Chinese festivals together with Spring Festival, Dragon Boat Festival and Tomb Sweeping Day. According to historical records, ancient emperors had the tradition to sacrifice to the sun in spring and the moon in autumn. The word "Mid-Autumn" first appeared in the book Rites of Zhou; It was not until the early Tang Dynasty that the Mid-Autumn Festival became a fixed festival. There are records of "August 15th, Mid-Autumn Festival" in the Book of Tang Emperor Taizong Records; The prevalence of the Mid-Autumn Festival began in the Song Dynasty. The date of the festival is August 15th of the lunar calendar, which is the middle of three autumns, hence the name "Mid-Autumn Festival", also called "Mid-Fall Festival"; It is also known as "Autumn Festival", "August Festival", "August Meeting" because this holiday is in autumn, in August; It is also called "Reunion Festival", "Daughters' Festival" because of the belief in praying for reunion and related customs activities. Because the main activities of the Mid-Autumn Festival are all centered around the "moon", it is also commonly known as "Moon Festival", "Moon Night", "Chase Moon Festival", "Play Moon Festival", "Worship Moon Festival"; In the Tang Dynasty, the Mid-Autumn Festival was also called "Zhengduan Month". There are roughly three origins of the Mid-Autumn Festival: originated from the ancient worship of the moon, the custom of dancing and singing under the moon to find a partner, and the remnants of the ancient autumn harvest festival to worship the earth god.
