SPEEDO is an international top brand of professional swimwear, founded in 1928. It began to gain prominence at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics when Speedo swimwear was chosen as the competition uniform by top swimmers from various countries. The real fame for Speedo came during the 2000 Sydney Olympics when swimmers from 130 countries and regions wore the latest Speedo sharkskin swimsuits, sweeping up 80% of the medals in swimming events. Even NIKE, a leading sports brand, couldn't compete with Speedo in terms of technological innovation in swimming gear. Speedo's dominance even prompted some coaches to protest: wearing Speedo swimwear was akin to using performance-enhancing technology.
