Have you ever seen solar cell windows that allow for a clear view to the outside? Researchers from MIT have developed such solar windows that can collect solar energy while remaining almost transparent. According to an article published in the journal *Science* last Friday, MIT's transparent solar cells work by first applying a special material onto the windows. These chemically colored coatings are light and nearly transparent. The coating absorbs energy and stores it within the glass, and the heat accumulated on the glass is then collected by heat collectors along the edges of the window. The chemicals used in this process are relatively inexpensive.
