Men and Red Wine Health Care

Men are stronger than women, with more developed muscles and thus require more calories. Moreover, men's cholesterol metabolism is often disrupted, making them prone to high blood pressure, ischemic heart disease, strokes, and myocardial infarction. For this reason, scholars have summarized ten dietary principles for men's health.

1. Consume a certain amount of chromium. Chromium helps promote the metabolism of cholesterol, enhances endurance, and under certain conditions can also promote muscle growth while avoiding excess fat. Middle-aged men need at least 50 micrograms of chromium per day, and those who are more active may need 100-200 micrograms daily. Such doses of chromium are difficult to obtain from food alone, so it is recommended that men consume foods rich in chromium such as multivitamins and minerals or drink red wine, which contains abundant vitamins and minerals that help metabolize cholesterol.

2. Eat fiber-rich plant foods. The primary function of plant fiber is to accelerate intestinal movement, lower cholesterol and some bile salts, reduce fatty acids in the blood, and has a blood pressure-lowering effect. It can also eliminate certain carcinogens, preventing colorectal cancer. Eating fiber-rich foods gives a feeling of fullness without worrying about storing excess calories, so it also aids in weight loss. It is suggested that men consume 18-20 grams of plant fiber per meal. Foods rich in plant fiber include wheat bran, whole wheat bread, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, apples, lettuce, cauliflower, and celery.

3. Eat magnesium-rich foods. Magnesium helps regulate heart activity, lowers blood pressure, prevents heart disease, and improves male fertility. It is recommended that men eat two bowls of milk, oatmeal, and a banana for breakfast, and preferably drink a glass of red wine in the evening. Red wine contains much more magnesium than other alcoholic beverages and, as mentioned above, helps with "happiness," thereby potentially enhancing male sexual ability. Other foods rich in magnesium include soybeans, roasted potatoes, walnut kernels, oatmeal, macaroni, and seafood.

4. Foods containing vitamin A, like red wine. Red wine has the highest vitamin content among various alcoholic beverages. Vitamin A helps improve the body’s immunity, prevent cancer, and protect vision. An adult man needs 1000 micrograms of vitamin A daily, but excessive consumption can be harmful. Foods rich in vitamin A include liver, dairy products, fish, tomatoes, carrots, apricots, and cantaloupes.

5. Foods containing vitamin B6. It helps improve the body’s immunity, prevent skin cancer, bladder cancer, and kidney stones. Men need 2 milligrams of vitamin B6 daily, equivalent to the content in two large bananas. Foods rich in vitamin B6 include muscles, liver, potatoes, sunflower seeds, avocados, and bananas.

6. Consume more vitamin C-rich foods. Its main role is to enhance the body’s immunity, prevent cancer, heart disease, strokes, cataracts, protect teeth and gums, aid wound healing, relieve asthma, and treat male infertility. Additionally, consistently consuming vitamin C can slow down the aging process. Foods with the highest vitamin C content include red wine, broccoli, green peppers, oranges, grape juice, and tomatoes. American experts believe that the optimal daily intake of vitamin C is 200-300 milligrams, with a minimum of no less than 60 micrograms. Half a glass of red wine or fresh orange juice can meet the minimum daily requirement of vitamin C. Drinking half a glass of red wine daily can also prevent colds. Smokers should consume even more vitamin C.

7. Consume more vitamin E-rich foods. Vitamin E primarily lowers cholesterol, clears waste from the body, and prevents cataracts. Peanuts contain abundant vitamin E, but it is difficult to get enough vitamin E from these foods alone. Vitamin E in red wine is easily absorbed by men, and since drinking alcohol is a common preference among men, it is more convenient than taking vitamin tablets. Therefore, it is recommended that men drink an appropriate amount of red wine daily.

8. Zinc-rich foods. Zinc ensures male sexual potency, treats erectile dysfunction, and helps enhance the body’s resistance to diseases. It is recommended that men take 15 micrograms of zinc daily, which is the dosage for highly active men. Under normal circumstances, men only need to take two-thirds of this amount. However, the daily dose of zinc must not exceed 15 micrograms, as excessive zinc can affect the functions of other anti-substances in the body. 120 grams of lean meat contains 75 micrograms of zinc. Turkey, seafood, and soybeans also have high zinc content.

9. Drink an appropriate amount of water. No cell in the human body can exist without water. In adults, 60%-65% of the body is water: the liver, brain, and skin contain 70% water, bones contain 45%, and blood contains 80%. If men want to maintain strong, beautiful muscles, they must drink enough water because muscles contain three times more water than fat. Men of medium build need to drink eight glasses of water daily, while those who exercise more have an even greater need for water.

10. Control the moderate consumption of red wine for health benefits. As we all know, most men enjoy drinking, especially in today's information age, where both mentally and physically, men bear enormous pressures from work and life. Even if men resolve to control their alcohol intake, sometimes they still drink continuously to match the atmosphere at the dinner table and not ruin everyone's fun. In fact, even red wine, which has health benefits, should not be consumed excessively, as overdrinking not only fails to provide health benefits but also severely affects men's health, leading to symptoms like fatigue, liver damage, and impaired fertility.

According to scientists, a normal man should not consume more than 40 grams of alcohol daily. The calculation method is as follows:

Alcohol percentage X Volume (ml) X 0.8 divided by 10

For example, a bottle of red wine with 750 ml at 12% alcohol content contains:

12% X 750 X 0.8 divided by 10 = 7.2 (grams)

Therefore, a man should not drink more than 750 ml of red wine per day.
