AMD has informed its partners that the Radeon HD 4850/4870 graphics cards will now be officially released simultaneously on June 25, two days later than the previously mentioned date of June 23, and a full week later than the initially planned June 18. AMD did not provide specific reasons for the delay but it is rumored to be an attempt to avoid NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 280/260 launch, which is set for June 17. Meanwhile, AMD has finally confirmed the core clock frequencies for the Radeon HD 4850/4870, at 625MHz and 750MHz respectively. It is claimed that the Radeon HD 4870 with GDDR5 will offer approximately 30% higher performance compared to the Radeon HD 4850 with GDDR3.
