Japanese TDK announced today the start of shipping of the new 1.8-inch solid state drive (SSD) HS1 series, with capacities ranging from 16 to 64GB and prices between 90,000 to 200,000 yen, equivalent to approximately 6,000 to 13,000 RMB. TDK specifically developed the DB Driver HS1 control chip for this product. The built-in block control optimization algorithm allows MLC NAND flash memory, originally rated for 10,000 program/erase cycles, to operate continuously for 10 years under 24-hour operation. The HS1 series uses SLC NAND flash chips, which naturally have a longer lifespan.
