Cunning human trafficker used a fake identity to commit crimes, evading capture for 17 years until the police finally tracked him down and arrested him.
In order to avoid being caught by the police, the human trafficker "Wang Jianping" concealed his real identity from the very beginning. He lured and trafficked multiple women under the pretense of recruitment. Even his accomplices who were in constant contact with him did not know that "Wang Jianping" was just his alias. After his accomplices were successively arrested, "Wang Jianping" fled back to his hometown in Hubei Province, where he married and had children under his real name, Lan Jianping. To ensure safety, he then moved his entire family to Guangdong Province. However, 17 years later, the Feidong police eventually found him.
Extremely cunning, even his accomplices did not know his true identity. In 1994, a group of people lured and sold multiple women to Feidong County under the guise of recruitment and sold them as wives to others. After receiving reports from the public, the Feidong police went to Yangdian Township in Feidong County to rescue the abducted women. Subsequently, through investigation, they dismantled this criminal gang. After the suspects were successively arrested, the police discovered that one suspect's identity could not be verified no matter what.
"His accomplices all called him 'Wang Jianping', a person from Yangxin, Hubei, but when we investigated, we found there was no such person," explained the investigating officer on December 13th. This situation could only indicate one thing: "Wang Jianping" was a fake name, and this person was very cunning, not even trusting his accomplices. "He spent so much time together with his accomplices, yet no one knew his real identity."
Afterward, the suspects in this case were all sentenced, but for 17 years, "Wang Jianping" remained at large. Since the launch of the "Clear Web Operation", the Cuozhen Police Station and the Criminal Investigation Brigade of Feidong County Public Security Bureau listed "Wang Jianping" as a key fugitive target. However, due to the inability to confirm the suspect's real identity, the arrest operation made little progress.
"To solve this, we decided to go to Yangxin, Hubei, to see if we could find any information about the suspect there." In early November, the Feidong police formed an arrest team and headed to Yangxin, Hubei. With the assistance of the local police, the officers began gathering and reviewing all information related to "Wang Jianping".
Every piece of information related to "Wang Jianping" was followed up by the police, hoping to discover the suspect's whereabouts. Days later, a clue unexpectedly surfaced.
It was a hotel registration record from over a decade ago, registered under the name "Wang Jianping". "There was also an address on it. When we checked, there was no one in that village named 'Wang Jianping'."
The lead seemed to have gone cold again, but while chatting with locals, the police learned that there used to be someone in the village named Lan Jianping, who later moved away.
The police tried retrieving Lan Jianping's information. To their delight, this person's age and physical characteristics closely matched those of the human trafficker from 17 years ago.
Subsequently, after further investigation, the police confirmed that Lan Jianping was indeed the "Wang Jianping" involved in the human trafficking case 17 years ago.
Although the suspect's identity was confirmed, the challenge was far from resolved because the police later discovered during their investigation that after moving away from his hometown, Lan Jianping completely stopped using his own identity information, making it extremely difficult to locate him.
Using a false name during the crime, moving away from his hometown shortly afterward, and avoiding using his own identity for over a decade, Lan Jianping's cunning was evident.
"It was hard to gain any useful information from him alone, so we decided to check if anyone lived with him." Not many people knew that Lan Jianping had married, but during their inquiries, the police learned that he had married a woman named Fan Moumou.
Lan Jianping might hide his identity, but his wife likely wouldn't. After a thorough investigation into Fan Moumou's household registration, the arrest team discovered that her hukou (household registration) had been transferred to Dapu County, Guangdong Province.
The police quickly traveled to Guangdong. Through photo comparisons and identifications, they ultimately confirmed that the man living with Fan Moumou was indeed the long-sought-after "Wang Jianping".
On November 30th, the arrest team captured the online fugitive Lan Jianping in Dapu County, Guangdong, who was suspected of human trafficking and had been on the run for 17 years. Upon investigation, it was revealed that Lan Jianping, along with others, lured and trafficked multiple women from Wuhan to Feidong under the guise of recruitment, using the alias "Wang Jianping" during the commission of the crime. After the incident, Lan Jianping returned to his hometown, married, and subsequently relocated his entire family's hukou to Dapu County, Guangdong, to evade legal consequences.
Currently, Lan Jianping has been criminally detained by the police on suspicion of human trafficking.
