May 19 to 21, 2008 was the national day of mourning. At 14:28 on May 19, the whole nation observed three minutes of silence. Cars, trains and ships sounded their horns, and air-raid sirens wailed. At 14:28 on May 12, 2008, a magnitude 8.0 earthquake struck Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province, with the epicenter in Wenchuan County. By 14:00 on May 18, the Wenchuan earthquake had caused 32,476 people to lose their lives.
