Xinhua News Agency, Rio de Janeiro, March 7th - On March 7, a professional manager and a FIFA inspection team visited Porto Alegre, a southern city in Brazil, to tour and assess the stadium for the 2014 World Cup. The Brazilian side assured that after an eight-month halt, the renovation work on the stadium would resume next week.
Khalil, the head of the sports department in Rio Grande do Sul, said: "We (to FIFA) introduced all infrastructure construction situations, we guarantee that the stadium renovation work within our region will resume next week."
This time, FIFA dispatched a 40-person inspection team which will spend six days assessing six of the twelve cities hosting the Brazil World Cup matches. These six cities are Sao Paulo, Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Cuiaba, Manaus, and Natal.
Recently, FIFA has been complaining about the slow progress of preparations for the Brazil World Cup, leading to many verbal disputes.
Due to dissatisfaction with the preparations for the 2014 World Cup, FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke recently criticized the organizing committee of the Brazil World Cup, even bluntly saying that Brazil should kick itself in the butt. This angered the Brazilian side, who sent a letter to FIFA stating they would no longer welcome Valcke. Under pressure, Valcke officially apologized on the 5th.
