Chutian Jinbao News - Jinbao News, reported by intern reporter Zhou Yixiong and intern Shifengjuan: If your name is "Zhang San" or "Li Si", you might not be able to apply for a bank card, simply because the name is too common, leading to too many duplicates. Miss Zhou, who has just started her job, experienced such an odd situation.

Yesterday, Miss Zhou told reporters that in early May, she successfully applied for a position at an advertising company near Huazhong University of Science and Technology. The company required employees to open bank cards at a certain bank near China University of Geosciences for salary disbursement. On April 4th, Miss Zhou went to the bank. After taking out her ID to prepare for card issuance, a male staff member who received her said after checking her ID, "Your name is too common, there are too many people with the same name, so you cannot apply for a bank card." This staff member then suggested she could open a passbook account, which would not affect her salary disbursement. After hearing this, Miss Zhou couldn't believe it, repeatedly asking, "Could it be that I can't apply for a bank card just because of my name?" After confirmation, Miss Zhou had no choice but to open a passbook account. Miss Zhou told reporters that using a passbook for salary disbursement was rather inconvenient, as it couldn't be used with ATMs and also didn't allow timely access to deposit information.

Yesterday afternoon, the reporter went to the bank to verify the situation. A responsible person from the bank confirmed through system queries that such an incident indeed happened and explained that it might be due to the bank's ongoing system upgrade recently, where the original capacity was insufficient causing this phenomenon. The reason why a passbook could be used was because passbooks use the first letters of names, which the system could recognize. The reporter questioned, "ID cards have uniqueness and will not repeat, so why can't the bank's system identify them?" The responsible person indicated that this issue needed to be answered by the superior leadership. However, she informed the reporter that the bank once encountered a case where a Shanghai customer and a Wuhan customer had the same name, surname, and ID number.

Subsequently, the reporter interviewed Director Hu from the higher-level bank’s integrated management department. Director Hu once again stated that due to the recent system upgrade of the bank, some instability in the system occurred, resulting in some loopholes. The situation like Miss Zhou's belonged to an occasional occurrence. He also mentioned that the bank's system upgrade would be completed by the end of this month, after which such incidents would no longer happen.

After coordination by the reporter, Director Hu got in touch with Miss Zhou and assured her that he would help resolve the issue of applying for a bank card within the near future.
