"Life and work haven't changed much, everything is pretty good." On July 19th, Guzhen girl Liu Wenxiu, who had been out of the public eye for nearly a month, appeared very relaxed. More than a month ago, Liu Wenxiu's heartfelt kiss in Shenzhen saved a emotionally charged "bridge-jumper male". Just like that, she instantly became an internet celebrity (see our June 22nd A24 edition "Bengbu woman saves life with a kiss in Shenzhen"). Now, as Liu Wenxiu returns to her working state, she frankly admits that if she were back at the scene on that day, perhaps she would change the way she saved the person.
**Review: The "most beautiful female worker" saves with a kiss**
Liu Wenxiu, a 19-year-old girl from Guzhen County, Bengbu City, works at a hotel in Jingtian, Shenzhen. On June 11th this year, on the Dongmen Renmin South pedestrian bridge in Shenzhen, a knife-wielding boy stood on the edge of the bridge ready to commit suicide. The suicidal boy was only 16 years old. Since he was holding a knife, the police did not dare let the onlookers get close. In an emergency, Liu Wenxiu lied by claiming to be the boy's girlfriend, which allowed her to approach him.
Listening to the boy's story and thinking about her own background, Liu Wenxiu cried while chatting with the boy. To help the boy regain confidence in life, Liu Wenxiu made an unexpected move—she kissed the boy. In the brief moment when the boy lowered his guard, rescue personnel rushed forward and saved him. Liu Wenxiu used her most precious kiss to save a young life.
After the "kiss-saving-life" incident was reported by multiple media outlets including our newspaper, Liu Wenxiu immediately drew widespread attention from all sectors of society. "The most beautiful female worker" became her most resounding title.
**Heartfelt Words: Doesn't want family life disturbed**
Liu Wenxiu didn't expect that her heartfelt "righteous kiss" would make her the focus of people's attention, leading to a life chased by the media like a "celebrity." All of this was beyond Liu Wenxiu's expectations.
During the period after the incident, Liu Wenxiu chose to "play hide-and-seek" with the media. Many media outlets went to her hometown, Guzhen, for interviews but ended up coming up empty-handed.
"In fact, it wasn't really avoiding, just wanting to be alone and calm down." On July 19th, after disappearing from the public eye for nearly a month, Liu Wenxiu smiled faintly as she accepted the journalist's interview again.
After saving the person, Liu Wenxiu felt unwell those days and returned to her home in Anhui. However, she didn't return to Bengbu but instead stayed with a friend in Hefei, so as not to disturb her family's life.
"At the time, I didn't consider the consequences, nor did I know things would turn out this way. I never thought about becoming famous." Liu Wenxiu hopes that this matter can come to an end sooner. "I'm just an ordinary person, doing something worth doing."
At the end of June, after Liu Wenxiu quietly returned to Shenzhen, the "bridge-jumper" she saved had a brief exchange with her over a landline phone. "He should be doing pretty well now, and I feel relieved."
**Frank Talk: If rescuing again, might choose another way**
Because of physical discomfort, she just started working again a few days ago. Upon returning to the hotel where she worked, both her job category and treatment underwent significant changes, but she doesn't find this particularly surprising. "Before the rescue, I heard that the company leadership would improve my treatment."
When the reporter revisited the scene of the kiss-rescue on the bridge, Liu Wenxiu frankly admitted that she almost never actively looks at media reports about herself. Her colleagues often send text messages saying, "Your news is on TV again."
Liu Wenxiu, 19, is still single. After the rescue incident, some men tried various ways to obtain her contact information and hoped to become friends with her.
However, faced with these sudden "proposals," the calm her turned them all down. "If someone wants to interact with me because of this incident, such a person isn't sincere at all."
If she were to rescue someone again, would she still "kiss"? In response to the reporter's question, Liu Wenxiu replied directly, "If I encounter a similar situation again, I will still step forward to help others, but I might choose a different method."
